Preferment, the live 8-week course for life after career

Last updated: November 2, 2026

The Preferment course is an 8-week live course with Anne van Leynseele that works through her book Preferment chapter by chapter, with homework between each weekly session.

Retirement was not supposed to feel like this. After decades building a career, a reputation and a way of moving through the world, many people find themselves with more time than ever and no idea what it is for. The course is for driven people ready to treat retirement as an ascension, not an ending.

What is included in the Preferment course?

  • Eight weekly live sessions with Anne, working through the book chapter by chapter.
  • The book itself, your companion text and workbook for the course.
  • Homework built into the book: real exercises done between sessions.
  • A structured path, where each week builds on the last.

The six modules, week by week

  1. Introduction: where you are now, and why the old retirement model was never built for you.
  2. Identity: separating who you are from what you did for a living.
  3. Motivation: finding what moves you without a paycheck as the reason.
  4. Alignment: matching values and strengths to how you spend your days.
  5. Accountability: structure that turns intention into routine.
  6. Launch: naming your mission for this next chapter and stepping into it.

Why learn from Anne van Leynseele?

Anne did not arrive at this by accident. She built and sold a production company in Los Angeles film and television, advised Fortune 100 companies on digital strategy across three continents, served as an Attorney Advisor in the Obama Administration, and helped write the legal framework for recreational cannabis in Washington State. Today she co-owns an award-winning chocolate farm on the Big Island of Hawaii, and wrote the book the course is built on.

She is not teaching a theory. She has lived four reinventions and teaches you how to run your own. Read her full story.

Who should choose something else?

If you want open-ended, one-on-one support rather than a fixed 8-week path, per-session coaching may suit you better; Rarified Life lists 1:1 coaching as coming soon. If your main concern is savings or income, start with a financial planner. If you are experiencing depression, speak with a licensed mental health professional first.

Enrollment happens on the main Rarified Life website. Visit the course page on rarifiedlife.com.
